Officer of the month march 2018

Officer Jordany Vargas

On Wednesday, 02/14/18, Officer Vargas responded to a medical call where the individual had overdosed, was unresponsive, unconscious, having trouble breathing and turning blue.  Officer Vargas administered Narcan resulting in the revival of the individual shortly thereafter, becoming conscious and responsive.  Officer Vargas saved a human life.

 

 

Officer of the Month February 2018

 

Officer Jesse Fabian

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Jesse Fabian as The Officer of the Month for February 2018. For his actions during the incident which occurred on January 20, 2018. Your rapid response to a report of a man who was unresponsive. Officer Fabian quickly located the man and realize he was overdosing and Administrated Department issued Nasal Narcan. Medical personnel arrived & transported the male subject to the hospital.

Officer Michael Colantuoni,

 

            The Awards Committee has selected Officer Michael Colantuoni as The Officer of the Month for January 2018. For his actions during the incident which occurred on December 8, 2017. You were made aware of a man who had threatened to harm himself and intended to jump from a bridge. You quickly located him on a bridge near the Lawrence General Hospital .He had climbed the railing and was already standing on the edge of the bridge. You engaged the man in conversation and after a short period were able to convince him to get help. He climbed back over the railing to safety.

 

Officer's of the Month December 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Leo Silvera & Officer Preston Carmichael as The Officer's of the Month for December 2017. On November 22, 2017. While patroling, you responded to the Lawrence General Hospital for reports of a larceny. You learned the suspect was making suicidal threats while trying to escape, he entered the Spicket River, which was moving rapidly and presented a clear danger to the suspect. With this man’s safety as your main concern you entered the swift moving water and were able to extract him from the river quite possibly saving his life.  

 

Officer of the Month November 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Det. Kevin Schiavone as The Officer of the Month for November 2017 with his discovery of a pattern of crime involving multiple victims of check fraud. You began the investigation with only one victim, but soon realized a victim pattern emerging. You worked with other agencies and were able to identify as many as 57 victims, with the majority of them from Lawrence.  You were also able to identify four suspects to date and are continuing to seek out other victims as well as identify suspects. You were able to uncover an organized crime ring targeting multiple victims.

Officer of the Month - Lawrence Police Department

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Tim Yerian as The Officer of the Month for February 2018. For his actions during the incident which occurred on October 6, 2017. Your rapid response to a report of a man who was unresponsive. Officer Fabian quickly located the man and realize he was overdosing and Administrated Department issued Nasal Narcan. Medical personnel arrived & transported the male subject to the hospital

 

Officer of the Month September 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Robert Bruner as The Officer of the Month for September 2017. Officer Bruner actions regarding a situation which occurred on August 10, 2017. He responded to the area of Winthrop Ave., for reports of an Auto Accident. Observations made by him led him to suspect the operator was acting in a suspicious manner. After conducting a thorough investigation, you developed probable cause to search his vehicle. You were able to seize over 50 pounds of marijuana, other controlled substances (oils and edibles), and most importantly you were able to recover a firearm. Your awareness and attention to detail that day resulted in the arrest of a subject that represented a danger to the citizens of Lawrence.

 

Officer of the Month August 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Off. Edward Estrada as The Officer of the Month for August 2017. For Officer Estrada selfless actions regarding a highly volatile situation which occurred on July 21, 2017. You responded to the area where you found a male subject that was brandishing a large kitchen knife, He was not responding to verbal commands or attempted reasoning by Officers on the scene, you were able to take a position behind the subject.  When he was temporarily distracted by other Officers you tackled him from behind and were able to get him away from the knife.   Your recognition of a brief widow opening to deescalate what was no doubt a lethal force situation and subsequent action quite possibly saved his life as well as the Lives of Officers at the scene.

 

Officer of the Month July 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Zachary Taylor as The Officer of the Month for July 2017. Off. Taylor rapid actions regarding an apparent overdose which occurred on June 5, 2017. You responded to 49 Blanchard St. where you found a male subject that was laying on the ground unresponsive. You observed the male subject had difficulty breathing and found that his pupils were pin point, you immediately activated the Emergency Medical Service and administered your department issued nasal Narcan. Medical personnel arrived shortly after and transported the male subject to the hospital.

 

Officer of the Month June 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Detective Harold Rogers as The Officer of the Month for June 2017. Det. Harold Rogers your diligent actions regarding an investigation of Homicide which occurred on February 16, 2017. You responded to Avon St. and Trinity St. where you found a male subject that was shot several times. You simultaneously secured the scene and coordinated a canvass of the area, which produced near immediate results. You worked seamlessly with other agencies over the next few months to build a case. Detective Rogers, your diligence and meticulous manner in which you conducted this investigation, resulted in the indictment of a suspect who clearly represented a danger to the citizens of Lawrence.

 

Officer of the Month May 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Paul Rossi as The Officer of the Month for May 2017. Officer Rossi actions regarding an incident which occurred on April 8, 2017. You responded to an active structure fire on 85 Newbury St. , you arrived before any other responders. Officer Rossi, you learned from people outside the building that there may be children still inside. Without regard for your own safety and in a selfless display of courage you entered the structure. Witnesses stated there were flames coming out of the windows on the second floor. You successfully evacuated people from the third and fourth floor, quite possibly saving several lives in the process.

 

Officer's of the Month April 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Michael Colantuoni as The Officer of the Month for April 2017. Off. M. Colantuoni actions during the incident which occurred on March 24, 2017. You responded to a medical assist call at 50 BroadwayYou then returned to the Police station and reviewed your department emails. You were made aware the Detective Division was attempting to identify a male subject wanted in connection to a bank robbery. Upon inspection of photos of the wanted subject, you were able to identify the same individual you had just assisted in getting the medical help he needed. Not only were you able to identify him but that he appeared to be still wearing the same clothing he wore in the commission of the robbery. The Detective Division was notified and apprehended the suspect at The Lawrence General Hospital. Officer Colantuoni, your awareness and attention to detail that day, resulted in the apprehension of a man who clearly represented a danger to the citizens of Lawrence.

The Awards Committee has selected Detective William Colantuoni as The Officer of the Month for April 2017.  Det. W. Colantuoni diligent actions regarding an investigation of an Armed Robbery which occurred on January 10, 2017. Det. Colantouni responded to Andover St., and spoke to a victim who was robbed of $9,000.00. The victim furnished you very little information to begin your investigation, he gave you a nickname and a general vehicle description. During the following weeks you conducted many interviews, developed leads, conducted search warrants, and were able to put together a case that would ultimately result in the arrest of three suspects. You worked seamlessly with other agencies in this multi-jurisdictional investigation. Detective Colantuoni, your diligence and meticulous manner in which you conducted this investigation, resulted in the apprehension of three suspects who clearly represented a danger to the citizens of Lawrence.

 

Officer of the Month March 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Scott McCabe as The Officer of the Month for March 2017. On February 27, 2017 during roll call you were made aware of an attempted armed robbery involving a firearm. You were also given a description of a suspect and the vehicle that was used. While you were patrolling your sector you noticed a vehicle matching the description communicated to you at roll call earlier that day. The vehicle sped off as you approached it, you were able to coordinate with other units and after a brief pursuit, which turned into a foot pursuit in which the suspect broke into a residence in an attempt to escape, you and other Officers apprehended him. The vehicle was reported stolen from Lowell MA.The post arrest interview of the suspect resulted in the identification of another suspect and charges relative to a conspiracy to defraud an insurance company. Auto theft and insurance fraud is currently a focus of effort from The Lawrence Police Department. Officer McCabe, your observations and attention to detail that day resulted in the apprehension of an individual whom clearly represented an immediate danger to the citizens of Lawrence.

 

Officer of the Month February 2017

 

            The Awards Committee has selected Officer Chris Bussey as The Officer of the Month for February 2017. Off. Bussey actions regarding an incident which occurred on February 7, 2017. You were made aware of a carjacking that had just taken place in Lawrence involving a firearm. You were able to locate the victims vehicle almost immediately. There were two suspects in the vehicle still, you were able to coordinate with other units and after a brief pursuit, during which you were possibly fired upon by the suspect, you apprehended them without incident. Officer Bussey, your observations and attention to detail that evening resulted in the apprehension of an individual whom clearly represented an immediate danger to the citizens of Lawrence.

 

Officer of the Month January 2017

The Awards Committee has selected Officer Solomon Dar as The Officer of the Month for January 2017.  Off. Dar actions during the incident which occurred on December 19,2016. You responded to a structure fire at 38 Tremont Street, and were made aware there may be people still in the building that couldn’t get out. You then entered the building and were able to locate and assist a female to exit the burning building to safety. Officer Dar, you selfless and courageous actions that day, quite possibly saved the life of a woman.
