Citizen's Police Academy

What is the Citizen Academy?

The Lawrence Police Department is pleased to provide the community with an inside look at local law enforcement. The 11 week Citizen Academy is designed to give you an overview of the Lawrence Police Department's functions, responsibilities, and operational procedures.

Classes are taught by police executives, staff members and veteran police officers. Students will also meet with the Chief of Police. The classes consist of lecture, discussion, demonstrations and interactive exercises.

Classes include such topics as: community policing, criminal investigation, evidence gathering, and driving under the influence. The Academy meets once a week for a three-hour evening session during the 11 weeks at our Police substation on Parker St.

There is no charge for attending the Academy. Students are only responsible for taking turns bringing refreshments after the first night of class.
